Why not just DIY it with paracord and a ferro rod?
You can, plenty of people do. The trade-off: ours uses one brass pin as both the compass pivot and the sundial gnomon, the magnesium-alloy body as both chassis and tinder source, the zirconia blade as both knife and ferro striker. That's how five systems plus four essentials fit in 2.21 oz instead of 16.16oz, and how it ends up on your neck every day instead of in a drawer.

The built-in LED runs up to 30 hours at room temperature on a CR311 cell. Actual runtime can vary with temperature and use conditions.

I’ve been using it for a little while now, and honestly, it’s a really cool piece of gear. It feels solid and well made, and I’m impressed by how much they managed to pack into something this small. I also discovered by accident that the beads glow in the dark, which was a pretty cool surprise. The tiny LED is another clever touch and comes in handy more than I expected. My only concern is that it only comes with one LED, so I’m not sure what I’ll do when it eventually stops working. Hopefully they’ll offer replacements soon.

Excellent product. I bought two because I expected the fire-starting components to wear down with use. My plan was to test one and save the other for wearing, but I didn’t need to worry. After using it to start a fire, the wear was barely noticeable, and the necklace still looked great.
It produces more than enough sparks to get a fire going, and the instructional video was clear and helpful. Shipping arrived on time.
The build quality was much better than I expected. It’s very well finished, and I’m genuinely impressed with it.

I honestly bought this thing just to mess around with it. I wasn’t expecting much, but man, this thing is really, really cool.
I seriously lost count of how many times I said, “No way, that’s awesome,” while I was figuring out all the different features.
You can tell they put a ton of thought into this thing. Every time I looked at it, I found another little detail or another clever way to use it. I haven’t seen many companies lately that feel like they genuinely care this much about what they’re making.
You can also tell FuseRig is still a pretty new company. Mine didn’t come with an instruction manual, but they did include a handwritten letter explaining everything. Honestly, I loved that. Without the letter, I probably would’ve missed half the features.
I’d recommend this to pretty much anyone who’s into the outdoors, EDC, tools, or just cool little gadgets.
And I have to say this again: it’s crazy how much stuff they packed into something this small. A lot of the design is seriously clever.
My favorite part is the tiny LED light. They put a little hole in the body, and when you stick the light in backward, it turns into a mini flashlight. The silicone plug on the other end seals up really tight too. Super simple, super smart, and just really cool.
There’s also this tiny sealed compartment inside the cap. It’s really small and kind of hard to open, which I’m guessing is because they wanted it to stay waterproof. I honestly have no idea what I’d even put in there.
Maybe this thing is made for spies?
Anyway, this is just a really fun, well-thought-out little tool. The more I played with it, the more I liked it.

Great concept. Compass needs to be improved. Can't use if moving. Price is to high. To hard to access fishing hooks and too small.

I did like that the ferro rod is now threaded to the screw top which will allow for a better grip. 👍

Would not recommend and would not purchase. It is a interesting design but there are better less expensive options.
